Sun Destinations Nyala Safaris accommodation.

Old-school rondavels are that in name only. Inside the luxury of the accommodation is evident in the details.

I have never been greeted at a lodge in this manner before. It made me feel special, and this was a great start to my return visit.

This area has been renovated, and I noticed that the other camp guests made good use of it.

It gives visitors a different perspective from the public space to the river beyond.

The walkway to what was to be my  ‘home ‘ for the duration of my stay.

And for those who might use this post to book accommodation, this is No. 5.

The gardens at this camp are spectacular, so take a moment to pause and immerse yourself in the sights and aromas.

To misquote a Creedence Clearwater Revival song from 1970… “Looking out my front door”…

My luxurious accommodation with an iconic Safari accessory…a mosquito net waiting to be lowered when the sun vanishes.

The room was well-appointed and included a tea and coffee station.

This particular chalet, No. 5, has an indoor as well as an outdoor shower but no bath. On my previous visit, I stayed in No. 2, which had an indoor and outdoor shower and a bath.

Seeing that I prefer to utilize a shower, either indoor or outside, the lack of a bath did not affect me. (As an aside, I was offered a chalet with a bath, but I chose this one as it had a better view.)

A trunk serves as a bedside table, adding to the luxury of the decor. Here, the devil is certainly in the details, and this attention to items like this makes time here feel special.

A repurposed paraffin lamp serves as a bedside lamp, however, there were also reading lamps above the bed.

It is not easy to fit furniture into a space having no corners, but here that feat has been accomplished perfectly without space being compromised.

Hanging space and shelving on the right, and a desk and the passage to the bathroom on the left.

Reflections…

The sliding door on the left leads to a walled outdoor shower.

At the end of the passage, the bathroom with an indoor shower and toilet.

A question: If a bathroom does not have a bath but only a shower, is it still a bathroom if it includes basins and a toilet?

It is that sort of question that keeps me awake at night.

Getting closer…

The bathroom lighting can be a bit bright first thing in the morning, but I only made that mistake once.

I am told that the lighting makes it easier for those wearing make-up, and I will accept their word for that.

If it seems that I was enthralled by the bathroom accessories…I was.

This is the indoor shower, but I always figure that if you are in the bush and there is an outdoor shower on offer, it should be the latter that is used.

I mean, who can resist using this! The walled outdoor shower is open to the elements, yet the wall offers visitors privacy.

Once the sun has dipped below the horizon and the lights are turned on, the room takes on a different ambience.

The neutral colour palette becomes softer, and the bed starts to look more inviting!

Time to say goodnight and wonder what might lie in store on the morning game drive.
