The Travel & Things Blog was started back in 2010 as an outlet for my magazine and newspaper articles, a far cry from my original career choice as an electrician.

Bio
In 2002 a colleague gave me my first travel writing commission and I have not looked back since.
The Blog has, over the years, focused more on travel within South Africa, with occasional forays beyond our borders. That being said, when commissioned by clients, I have enjoyed staying at off the beaten track and out of the way places. Often these have turned out to be hidden gems that are not well known. I am always concerned about sharing those as they would cease to be hidden. However, as a travel writer, it is part of my job. In 2012, Travel& Things was runner up in the South African Blog awards, a position that it has held every year since then.
Due to my lifelong involvement in wildlife, this aspect has become the focus of many of the postings that my current readers enjoy. Not limited to travel destinations, the Blog also features book and gear reviews for a variety of travel-related products.
What started out as a hobby has now become a way to enable visitors, both local and international, to find out more about what our wonderful country has to offer. It is said that if you can live your passion then you will never work another day in your life.
I am currently living that dream. And long may it continue.
