In the first real road trip post lockdown, Travel & Things will be heading down to the KZN North Coast to do research for Blog postings and a series of articles on the various lodges and guest houses that we will be staying at. I am hoping that you will allow me a short hiatus from the regular Monday, Wednesday and Friday postings while I am on the road. Regular postings will return again during the first week in December.
As it is an 8-hour drive to Kosi Bay pick up point, The trip will be broken in Pongola on the outbound leg at this Lodge. I found it on the Internet and the owner has kindly offered to host both my wife and me for the night. The trip from Johannesburg to Pongola should take about 5 hours, leaving us only a 3 hour trip to the collection point in Kosi Bay. That means a leisurely breakfast and not stressing about making the pick-up, which I am told leaves punctually at the appointed hour.
The next three lodges that we will be visiting are all managed by this company. A combination of beach and bush that will satisfy both my wife and me.
The last time I was in Hluhluwe I was a teenager on a wildlife course as part of a delegation from the Eastern Cape Wildlife Society. But that was more 50 years ago and I am CERTAIN that the area has changed significantly.
What happens in LA stays in LA? Not really! We are looking forward to ending our trip at this Guest House in Piet Retief. Much has been spoken of this town and I believe that there is a special coffee shop in a local nursery that we have to try. Travel & Things hopes to return with a multitude of stories and a plethora of photographs.
Although Travel & Things will be on a break while I am away, remember that you can still watch Season 2 of “In conversation with”…on my YouTube channel.
