“In conversation with”... and what a week it turned out to be. Seeing that we are STILL not allowed to travel, I took off my bush hat and made myself comfortable in my office to conduct these chats with friends in both the travel and entertainment industries.

It has been a few years since Travel & Things has been produced as a radio show and conducting Zoom interviews, where I cannot hide behind the anonymity of a microphone, is a whole new experience for me. But the chats have been fun and it has allowed me to interact with humans(albeit in the digital form) again. The interviews featured in this posting are those that I did from 25-29 May. All these videos and more can be viewed via my YouTube channel.

Up and away with Bill Harrop, owner of Bill Harrop’s Original Balloon Safaris. Although not so much of the away given that he, and his balloons, are still in lockdown.

Howard Rogerson, MD of Rugged Wear clothing. The last time I saw him in early March, he did not have a beard, so I was quite ‘thrown’ by this image of him with a beard! Howard’s company supplies a range of clothing the game lodge and hospitality industry in general.

Competition time: Name this Rugged Wear Rhino and stand a chance to win a Rugged Wear gift voucher to the value of R2000.00! Email your contact details together with your suggestion for a name to: david@travelandthings.co.za

Raconteur and story-teller supreme, Raymond Heron. Together with his wife and family he runs Spionkop Lodge in KZN and takes a variety of guests to the summit of Spionkop where a rather pointless battle took place between the Boers and the British on the 23rd and 24th January 1900. Almost 800 lives were lost, 80% of those being British and all for nothing. One of the most pointless battles of that war.

Remember Melanie Walker? She of the orange jumpsuit in the TV series “Treasure Hunt” back in 1988. Currently, Melanie is recording a gardening series as well as presenting on community radio stations.

I ended off the week with comedian Al Prodgers. We chatted about a tenuous tangle of topics. From what he has not colour-coded the books on his shelves to homeschooling his daughters and walking his dog.
