Back at this glorious guest house sooner than I expected. An unplanned visit to the area meant that I required accommodation and food, and what better place to spend a night than at the Ekhaya Bush Villa, Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate.

On my previous visit, I had been in a room on the ground floor; this time, I was going to have to get my suitcase up the stairs into the accommodation that had been set aside for me.

I wandered around while waiting for my room to be ready. I had arrived earlier than expected, and I was not disappointed by what I was to discover.

As I walked through the front door, these had JUST come out of the oven. Needless to say, I had to taste test at least one…or two…or three.

My observation? Perfect! But I did go back for a couple more just to be certain.

These biscuits should be sold at home industry shops or should be offered to departing guests as “pad kos”.

I am certain that many get placed into pockets, but bag them and slap on a sticker price, and they could become a potentially lucrative revenue stream.

A view from the balcony of my upstairs room.

Remember the old poem about the grand old Duke of York?

It went something along the lines of…

“The Grand Old Duke of York,

He had 10000 men.

He marched them up to the top of the hill(stairs)

And then he marched them down again.

When they were up, they were up.

And when they were down, they were down.

But when they were only halfway up, they were neither up nor down.

These stairs reminded me of that poem from my childhood.

I decided that once my suitcase was up, it was not coming down until I was ready to leave!

I, on the other hand, went up and down like a mountain goat.

A comfortable bed, with welcoming linen and a mosquito net, just in case pesky invaders need to be repelled.

Another view of the room, showing just how many cupboards are enough…

Sitting on the sofa at the foot of the bed enables guests to look out of the huge windows and into the sky beyond.

A skylight in the bathroom? Why not.

If you have one, there may as well be two.

Now you can lie in the bath and look at the stars.

Peering through the fireplace. Not quite cold enough to light a fire, but the tea-light provided ambience.

Prepped for dinner…

Mains…

Dessert…

I never noticed the backs of the chairs on my previous visit, or perhaps these are a new addition?

Either way, it was this cheerful greeting that remained front of mind about my visit as I drove off towards the entrance and the N1 back to Johannesburg.

There are several more rooms for me to try, so I intend to return to test those.
