And you don’t even have to take flowers along. The Impala Lily is one of the iconic Indigenous species that may be in bloom in the camp of your choice(especially Nambu Camp where their gardens are filled with them)
The camps mentioned in this post are all accessible by road from either Johannesburg or Pretoria.
Or you can fly to Hoedspruit and use a transfer company to get you to your camp(s) of choice.
These properties are in no particular order except for Africa on Foot and n’Thambo Tree Camp which are less than 2km apart.
Africa on Foot.
It is one of the most authentic safari camps in the Sun Destinations portfolio. Here guests can relax while surrounded by the African bushveld.
There is a communal pool that is often visited by the local elephant herds which is exciting for visitors sitting on the deck where the pool is situated.
The luxury accommodation in rondavels harks back to the early sarafi days but they are the epitome of modern elegance.
If you like your shower outdoors, then you can request one of the rondavels that offers that facility.
All are within easy walking distance of the main building where the lounge, dining room, bar and boma are situated.
And this is what makes this camp different.
Here guests can choose to either do a walk or a game drive as one of the daily activities.
Professional, highly trained field guides will enable you to enjoy aspects of the bush that you might miss from a game-drive vehicle.
The walks are neither long nor strenuous, but they will make a stay at this camp special.
There is a possibility of seeing lions while out on a walk from Africa on Foot, but usually the larger game species steer clear of the walkers leaving groups free to look for the smaller creatures.
Did you know?
Much like there are the Big 5 (lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino) there is also a Little 5 that consists of the following…Ant Lion, Leopard tortoise, Buffalo Weaver, Elephant Schrew and Rhino Beetle.
Perhaps some of the latter will be seen on the walk.
Cuteness awaits guests at n’Thambo Tree Camp.
Aside from serving as the reception area, the main building at n’Thambo Tree Camp consists of a lounge, bar, dining area, and an outdoor deck with a swimming pool.
The accommodation is off-ground and situated within the branches of one of the trees on the property.
Not high enough to make guests who have a fear of heights to be concerned but it gives a different perspective on game viewing from the deck in front of the rooms.
There are indoor showers and toilets so that guests do not nee to climb up and down stairs in the middle of the night.
The perfect romantic getaway.
An African wild cat caught in the fading light while on an evening drive from Nambu Camp.
Guests to Nambu Camp get to mingle at mealtimes with their fellow travellers and this is a great opportunity to learn who you are sharing a game drive vehicle with.
This type of dining is not enforced, and if you want to enjoy a romantic dinner for two of you want to eat with your family, this can be arranged.
A sighting that gets the heart pumping and adrenaline flowing.
Out on an afternoon drive from the intimate Chacma Bush Camp.

The stunning accommodation at Nyala Safari Lodge.
Nyala Safari Lodge cuteness.
One day ALL safari tents will be made like the ones at Bundox River Lodge.
An elephant on the banks of the Olifants River as seen from Bundox River Lodge.
If the weather is inclement, then you can remain in camp and watch the animals as they cavort in and along the river banks.
A sort of sofa safari without having to leave the camp.
Umkumbe Safari Lodge, Riverside another luxury Sun Destinations property that offers everything that guests can want for an extended stay.
Surprise! Driving back to Umkumbe Safari Lodge, Riverside the tracker was able to find the guests on the vehicle more than one of these!
