A handful of 2024 wildlife highlights.

The African Fish Eagle, with its piercing cry echoing across rivers and dams, is the voice of Africa's wilderness. As it takes off from a tree branch, its massive wings unfurl with grace and power, a living symbol of freedom. Its bold white head and chest, contrasting sharply against its dark wings and russet body, make it a unmistakably regal figure against the endless skies. Revered for its hunting prowess and commanding presence, this bird is more than just a raptor; it is a herald of Africa's untamed beauty, embodying the wild spirit of the continent.

Just another African sunset? Perhaps, but there is always something special about being in the bush at this time of day.

The images in this post are some of my favourites from the latter part of 2024 and do not really need any explanation.

It is said that a picture is worth 1000 words and if that adage is to be believed then I have saved myself 16000 words.

This leopard cub popped out from behind a bush while we were watching a female that turned out to be its mother.

Buffalo always look at you as if you owe them money.

You DO NOT want to bump into one of these when walking.

Their aggressive and unpredictable behaviour is why I rate them as the apex member of the Big 5.

A lion cub after spending time inside a buffalo carcass that a large pride had killed.

It was part of a double kill where both a female and her calf were taken down in quick succession.

One of the pride members feasting on the remains of the female buffalo.

Waiting in the wings.

A vulture struts its stuff while keeping an eye open for scraps.

A face that only a mother could love?

On high alert!

Making their way to a waterhole.

The smell of the water is a strong attraction and it was at this point, that many of the herd broke ranks and ran towards the water source.

One of my favourite animals…

It’s not an image that I post often.

However, seeing that I have not described where this was taken, I feel justified in sharing it.

Reflections…

And while nature is putting on a show, these humans are only interested in themselves.

I don’t want to get on a soapbox, but mobile cameras are ruining our wildlife experiences as many are so busy posting and editing that they do not get the full, immersive experience that they ACTUALLY signed up for.

But I don’t want to be judgemental… everyone experiences their adventure differently.
