My stay at this guest house was not straight forward. I had been there earlier in the week for two nights, returned home to Johannesburg for one night and then was back in Pretoria for the event I was working at and one last overnight stay.
I had informed the management that I would be back at the guest house by about 10pm, but given the excessive traffic at the venue where I had been working, I only arrived at around midnight.
As I rang the night bell and I have to say I was prepared to wait for the manager to wake, but the door to reception was opened almost immediately and a smiling face directed me to the parking and he said that he would meet me there and show me to my accommodation. I was more than pleasantly surprised, given that it had been a long day and this exceeded my expectations.
I was not in the room that I had stayed in earlier in the week neither had I spotted this during my walk about during that time.( https://travelandthings.co.za/2023/05/brooklyn-guesthouses-pretoria/)
So it was a surprise to find this building snuggled away just off the parking area.
At another time, I might have spent time on this seat, however all I wanted was to complete my project, have a shower and get to bed. All of which I did eventually do.
The front door of my room. Open and welcoming.(remember it was midnight)
This outdoor area is shared by two units as far as I could figure out. I know that there was at least one more unit, as I heard them return around 01h00. But seeing I was awake and working, they did not disturb me.
The room is all that is required for a guest without being excessive. The linen was crisp and the bed comfortable and the bedside lights functioned as such and were not just for decoration.(An ongoing ‘fight’ of mine with interior designers who insist on utilizing lamps that are decorative, yet useless when it comes to trying to read by their light.)
There was also a table and chair that doubled as a work surface for my laptop and the coffee and tea and the kettle was right there to keep me going as I edited images into the early hours of the morning.
The bed did look inviting, but I was determined to stay off it UNTIL I had completed what I needed to do. A couple of cups of coffee made certain that I kept that promise to myself.
Unlike the unit that I had stayed in earlier in the week, this one had a full-size bath that guests can luxuriate in, should they desire.
For me it was a quick shower and then FINALLY I could make it to bed.
Luckily there was no need to get up early the next morning as my project was over and after a leisurely coffee, I would be heading home to Johannesburg.
One last look out onto the veranda before closing my door and turning off the lights.
Guests can enjoy their meals here if they wish.
The restaurant is part of the Brooklyn Guesthouses property and is open from 07h00-21h00 on weekdays.
Weekend times are slightly different.
The view of the restaurant from the table that I chose to have my coffee at.
Earlier in the week, I had tried their express breakfast which was tasty and just sufficient to keep the pangs of hunger at bay until lunchtime.
A BIG cup of coffee before I took the highway South.
My thanks to the owner and staff for their hospitality and for getting me to experience a whole different aspect of the capital.
Highly recommended for value for money as well as professionalism and service.
