A welcoming committee awaited us as we arrived at Bezhoek Tented Camp, which was the first Travel & Things destination for 2023.

As it is only 2 hours from Johannesburg, my wife was able to take an afternoon off work and join me for the 2 nights and 3 days that we enjoyed at this exciting property.

This is just one of several species of plains game that guests can enjoy.

And if you are passionate about birds, there are more than 300 recorded species on the property.

The road leading to the accommodation and away from the main lodge building.

Guests need only arrive, park their cars right next to their tents and are then able to walk to and from the dining room and the public swimming pool.

There are 9 en-suite tents with amenities that every guest has raved about.

Meanwhile, back at the main building, under a bright blue sky, the welcoming cool of the public pool awaits guests.

If the weather should decide NOT to play along there are always board games to keep both young and old occupied.

It seems that games like these have been side-lined in favour of mindless scrolling through social media. Which is a pity, as nothing can beat the excitement of a good game of Monopoly. And remember, not only is the money worth more than the rand, there are ‘get out of jail’ free cards…AND you get R200.00 for just passing go!

If you are the energetic kind, then these are for you.

The colours demarcate the various MTB routes on the property. Some easier than others, but all are guaranteed to offer riders awesome landscapes and exciting and challenging courses.

Can you imagine coming across a rock formation similar to this? There are many on the farm.

And if your are not a rider or trail runner, then how about a game drive?

Although there are none of the Big 5 resident on the property, leopard are regularly spotted on the various trail cameras set up on the major game trails.

And in the evening? A fire to warm up the dining area.

You can eat ‘alone’ or extend the table to include friends and others who you might have befriended during your stay.

Breakfast…

It is said to be the most important meal of the day and the Chef and kitchen staff at Bezhoek Tented Camp certainly believe that.

First a bowl of ‘healthy’… fresh fruit, muesli and yogurt…followed by poached eggs with biltong.

Lunch…a chicken burger and potato salad.

Bezhoek offers a variety of meal choices and you don’t necessarily have to have 3 meals a day during your stay.

That being said, when we visited, self-catering was not an option.

Dinner…could there be a better way to end of a busy day?

A tart with fried onions was the starter and when I commented on the size of the main course I was told that it was ‘just’ chicken with salad.

But it was much more than that and most delicious to boot.

The outside of our accommodation for the weekend.

This was a first visit for us, but we are certain that it won’t be our last.
