Hosted at the Southern African Wildlife College by Bushwise, dressed by Ruggedwear and organised by FGASA.
And so we say goodbye to SGOTY 2022 and we hope that everyone will be asked to return in 2023…
Travel & Things take a moment to share final thoughts.
A most welcoming welcome letter that we all found in our accommodation…
It made us feel that we were all a part of a most special event.
Forget goodie bags, there were goodie boxes, thanks to Ruggedwear. They contained all that was required to make the finalists and the judges look sartorially elegant and keep warm at the same time.
Yes, the first few days were extremely cold. Unexpectedly so, but we all survived thanks to layers of clothing.
It seems that the MD of Ruggedwear was testing out his product to make certain that it lived up to the advertising claims.
And it did!
On the other hand, Werner, MD of Sapmok shoes was wishing that he had brought a warmer jacket rather than shoes with him.
Perhaps that is why he looked a little unhappy?
Clothing and coffee, you cannot keep warm without a generous supply of BOTH.
Thanks to finalist Solomon for keeping us warm and our spirits up.
Morgan from Wildearth seemed to be raring to go.
Smoke came out of his nostrils as he tried to keep himself warm so that his hands did not freeze on the camera controls.
How many multi-tools does a field guide need?
As many as can be comfortably attached to a belt.

Many thanks to the staff who made certain that the dining area was inviting and the food was plentiful and tasty.
Set up and ready for the Awards ceremony, the culmination of Safari Guide of the Year 2022.
Michelle and her team certainly scored a bullseye with the event.
They have set the bar very high for Safari Guide of the Year going forward.
Those who work tirelessly behind the scenes do not always get the credit that they deserve, but they were seen and their efforts are applauded.
The sun sets on Safari Guide of the Year 2022. Many thanks to old friendships rekindled and new friendships formed.
In this industry, there are no ‘real’ goodbyes, only farewells until we meet again.

Allow me to end off this series of posts with a Gaelic poem…
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields
and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
With thanks to all the sponsors, without whom, Safari Guide of the Year 2022 would not be the success that it was!
