Senalala Safari Lodge, Klaserie Private Nature Reserve.

"With a focus on privacy, luxury, and relaxation, you will feel at home as soon as you step through the gates of Senalala".

It has been about 3 years since my last visit to Senalala Safari Lodge and the most noticeable change has to the reception area is the recently completed turning circle as well as the after feature that is still having to pave around the base completed. It certainly makes a difference in the rainy season when guests were welcomed by mud.

This time of the year, temperatures in the region can climb well into the 40+ C, so staying in the shade as long as possible is certainly an option.

And is always good to have an ice-cold beverage close at hand. Senelala serves its guests breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as having a fully stocked bar on hand 24/7.

Taking the indoors outdoors. This comfortable outdoor lounge overlooks the constantly busy waterhole that is just across the river from the edge of the deck in camp.

At night time, when the sun goes down and the fire is lit, guests can gather here to chat about their sightings and what attracted their attention during the day. That does not mean that this area cannot be utilized during the day.

And speaking of visitors to the waterhole, there were at least 2 elephant herds that came to slake their thirst and cool down when the mercury climbed. A great way for guests to see a variety of game without leaving the lodge grounds.

And while the 4-legged guests are enjoying the waterhole, the human guests can entertain themselves in THIS pool.

Meals are enjoyed at a long table (with all the necessary COVID-19 protocols in place). Should the weather change, there is an indoor dining room that can be used to keep the rain and the cold at bay.

Inside the main lounge. A very comfortable space to relax in perhaps read a book or just sit and chat to other like-minded visitors, both local and international.

Tea, coffee, biscuits and risks are on offer constantly. Or perhaps something a little stronger is what you are after? All that, and more, is available in this portion of the main building.

The exterior of my room. All the rooms are in a semi-circle and face the waterhole, giving almost unrestricted viewing while lying on your bed!

The rooms are fitted with fly screens so that you can keep doors and windows open but the insects out. There is also an AC to try to keep the heat at bay. The bed was most comfortable and the linen was conducive to sleep.

No exterior shower, but an indoor bath and shower were more than adequate. A big plus for me was the wonderful towels that were the perfect quality and both dried and (almost) massaged at the same time.

I can highly recommend this brand of soap!

Can there be a better end to a day in the African bushveld? I don’t think so. A sundowner drinks stop to watch as the sun sets.

Returning to camp to find that even though it was warm, a fire was most a welcome addition to be enjoyed before dinner was served.

On this particular evening, the dinner was a braai (barbeque) and these beef steaks were part of what was on offer.

What a wonderful way to end off a very busy day at Senalala Safari Lodge… Good night all!
