Where my recent birthday road trip began.Lejwe la Metsi, just outside Bela-Bela in Limpopo Province. My wife and I have stayed in some wonderful properties before, but this certainly took our combined breath away. Over-the-top, but in a tasteful way, does not begin to describe the interior decore of the private and public areas that we investigated. For instance, this is the lounge in our master bedroom.
And this is the view of our bed from the lounge portion of the master bedroom. To the left of the bed is the bathroom and to the right, the walk-in dressing room. Behind the head of the bed is a hallway that leads to the other two en-suite spacious bedrooms.
A full dressing room with more cupboard space than we could utilize. Interestingly, usually my wife commanders the cupboards when we are away, but here, with more cupboard space than we have at home, she did not bother to unpack! We both put our suitcases here and merely took out what we needed on a daily basis. Come to think of it, I seem to remember that my wife DID hang up a jacket.
The bathroom, complete with heated floors and crystal taps, was an unexpected surprise. Much like the accommodation, no expense seems to have been spared, making it a memorable experience. Gold fittings and fixtures with the aforementioned crystal taps set the tone.
There was more product in the bathrooms than can be found at the local chemist or supermarket.
This is one of the other two bedrooms within the Villa. It had a large bed…aside from the plethora of cupboard space and the en-suite.
While THIS bedroom had two beds as well as the en-suite. Although neither of these bedrooms compares to the magnificence of the master, they are more than spacious with all of the amenities that you would expect at a property of this nature.
Accommodation of this magnitude deserves not one lounge, but two. The master bedroom has a lounge and seeing that the Villa can accommodate 6 people in spacious elegance, there is also this area together with a breakfast bar and an indoor and outdoor dining area should everyone wish to spend time together.
And if we thought that the interiors were expansive, the exteriors were just as spectacular. This is the dining/lounge area near the pool. Stunning when lit at night and even more exquisite during the day. A great place just to relax and contemplate…
Believe it or not, this is the central area in the main building that connects the bar, dining room and a lounge together. The property used to be run as a group of private residences, but the new owners are opening it up as a commercial venture. It is a stunning venue to host a special event, a conference (remember those?) or even just a weekend getaway.
One of the more formal areas of this private reserve. Not what I was expecting to find when I opened the door! If the devil is in the detail, then in my opinion that he has taken up residence here. Nothing has been overlooked or not done to the highest standards. ( I did look, but was unable to find fault with anything)
One of two such seating areas in the bar. I am certain that once the pandemic and the various lockdown levels have been rescinded, this area will once again be filled with guests laughing and sharing stories. For now, it sits empty and forlorn…awaiting the return of guests both old and new.
Because of COVID protocols, the bar was empty, but I stopped in to have a look before heading off to dinner.
And speaking of dinner…The Chef is most accommodating and the food that he prepared during our stay exceeded all expectations. As the dining room is about to undergo a major renovation, I have specifically excluded an image of it, however, the food, that does not need a makeover as it was superb!
If all the indoor space was getting claustrophobic, then my wife and I could always spend time here on the wrap-around verandah that offers a stunning view of the garden and the pool area.
One of the best kept secrets on the property…this splendid waterfall, which it turned out was about a 5-minute walk from our Villa. A great spot to lay a blanket, grab a pair of binoculars, relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of the extensive birdlife.
