"In conversation with" is a new addition to the Travel & Things brand. I get to chat to people from within the tourist industry as well as entertainers, writers and sundry interesting folk. It is a non COVID-19 space where we can be positive, share a hot beverage and hold entertaining conversations...

“In conversation with”... A new week, a new month and a new lockdown level! Almost unnoticed, South Africa slipped into Level 3 and I have now reclassified myself as a non-travelling travel writer and made myself comfortable in my office to conduct these chats with friends in both the travel and entertainment industries.

Conducting Zoom interviews, where I cannot hide behind the anonymity of a microphone, is a whole new experience for me. But the chats have been fun and it has allowed me to interact with humans (albeit in the digital space) again. The interviews featured in this posting are those that I did between the 8-12 June. All the videos and more can be viewed on my YouTube channel.

“In conversation with”…Stuart Loxton, CEO of Ocean Star Sailing Academy. I chatted to Stuart about his journey from corporate finance and banking to where he currently finds himself. And I finally get a correct definition of a Super Yacht!

“In conversation with”…Nick Dreyer, Co-owner of Veldskoen Shoes. He shared the story of this iconic brand that is being seen on the feet of film stars and Royalty! Not to mention on the feet of thousands of South Africans.

“In conversation with”…Michelle du Plessis, MD of FGASA. Michelle spoke to me about the reasons for those in the guiding industry becoming members of The Field Guides Association of South Africa.

“In conversation with”… Venise Germanos, a counselling psychologist. Venise compared the 5 stages of grief as presented by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross to the current lockdown situation. If like me, you are struggling mentally to come to terms with the situation in South Africa, then I suggest that you watch and listen to what she has to say.

“In conversation with”…Barry Hilton, well-loved South African comedian. I chatted to Barry about the origins of “The Cousin”, his longevity on the comedy circuit and his online braai shop.
