"In conversation with" is a new addition to the Travel & Things brand. I get to chat to people from within the tourist industry as well as entertainers, writers and sundry interesting folk. It is a non COVID-19 space where we can be positive, share a hot beverage and hold entertaining conversations...

This was my first week of “In conversation with”... and what a week it turned out to be. Seeing that we are STILL not allowed to travel, I took off my bush hat and put on my headphones to conduct these chats with friends in both the travel and entertainment industries.

It has been a few years since Travel & Things has been produced as a radio show and conducting Zoom interviews, where I cannot hide behind the anonymity of a microphone, has a whole new experience for me. But they have been fun and it has allowed me to interact with humans again. Albeit in a digital world. The interviews featured in this posting are those that I did during the week of the 18-22 May. All these videos and more can be viewed via my YouTube channel.

Brett Skolmen, the GM of the South African FotoFirst franchise spoke to me about what their company can offer during lockdown. This could be seen as an ideal opportunity to get all your important digital images either printed our put into a photobook.

Author, editor and raconteur, David Bristow chatted about his current series of books, travelling around South Africa in a Kombi and some interesting stories that he has uncovered during his research.

Cindy Sheedy Walker is the CEO of Extraordinary Marketing that has several game lodges in their portfolio. My wife and I have an attachment to one of those, Hamiltons, as we spent our honeymoon AND our 10th wedding anniversary there.

One of my Top 5 TV shows of all time has to be “Still Breathing” that was flighted on Dstv recently. The season 1 finale aired on Thursday 21/05/2020 and I spoke to the director and writer, husband and wife, Johnny and Tiffany Barbuzano before the final episode aired. There are no spoiler alerts as they gave away none of the plot lines for the final episode.

Bush legend Bruce Lawson decided to walk 150 km in 3 days to help raise money for this charity. It turned into 1000km over 20 days with people joining the walk remotely from all over the world.

Michelle du Plessis is the Managing Director of FGASA, the training authority for field guides in South Africa. With lockdown taking a toll on the guiding industry, the organization has set up a Guide Fund to raise money to help their members in need.

A man wearing many hats, Bruce Dennill brought his guitar to our interview to share some of his music. A fellow travel writer and broadcaster, he had lots of interesting tales to share.
