Package price includes: Camping for 9 nights. 2 x game drives at Tautona Lodge. 3-hour boat hire with a guide.2 full days boat hire with a guide. Guided Tsodilo Hills day trip with packed lunch and drinks as well as park entry fees. Bed levy

The price excludes: Meals. Drinks. Drinks and snacks on the boat. Items of personal nature. Fuel levy for the boat has to be paid at the end of your stay. ( P15 per litre). Fishing gear

FYI: There is a swimming pool as well as a restaurant at all the lodges. Firewood can be purchased. The lodges have cancellation penalties should you cancel the booking at any stage.

 

 

ITINERARY

 

Day 1: Friday 20 March 2020

Kalahari Rest: Drive roughly 4 hours to the Skilpadshek Border Post. Do the necessary documentation. Make sure you have cash with you to pay for the fees at the border as well as a black pen. On arrival in Botswana, leaving Pioneers Gate, drive on the A2 to Kalahari Rest just outside Kang. This is a 407Km drive. You can stock up on food in Lobotse, where there are numerous shops or you can stop in Kang.

 

Day 2: Saturday 21 March 2020

Tautona Lodge: Leaving Kalahari Rest today, you will drive to Tautona Lodge in the Ghanzi area. This is a 283Km drive. Arrive at Tautona Lodge and set up camp. In the afternoon you will head out in the game vehicle for an afternoon game drive and look for birds (Over 250 species) with your experienced guide. The game you can expect to see is Eland, Oryx, Blue Wildebeest, Impala, Kudu, and Giraffes. At an extra cost, the lodge offers the following: Vulture Experience, San walk/dance or Spa treatments

 

 

Day 3: Sunday 22 March 2020

Tautona Lodge In the morning you will head out for early morning game drive and see what the early morning bush has in store for you. Day at leisure at the campsite or you can do a self-drive around the park at an additional cost.

 

Day 4: Monday 23 March 2020 

Shakawe River LodgeToday you will pack up and drive 479km to Shakawe River Lodge.4 nights accommodation at this campsite is ideal to experience this piece of heaven. The campsite is situated under the shady canopy of riverine trees and has ten allocated sites, eight of which have beautiful river views.
Each site comprises a braai facility complete with a grid and washing up facilities with cold water. There are also lights and electrical plug points where you can plug in your camper fridges and recharge your camera batteries, while you recharge your own batteries whilst enjoying the beautiful river view. The spacious ladies and gents ablutions are kept exceptionally neat and clean and provide you with a steaming hot shower. There is also a washbasin facility.
The main bar area at the campsite has a small restaurant with a basic bar menu, offering light meals. The Okavango River plays host to a healthy fish population and offers some of the best sport fishing in Africa. The Tiger Fish hunts in the crystal clear open waters which offer unforgettable fishing, for the novice and experienced angler alike. The lodge has five well-equipped fishing boats, each one skippered by well trained and experienced fishing guides. Guests at the lodge will have the opportunity to enjoy guided, boating excursions on the Okavango River to admire the abundant birdlife, perhaps taking more time to search for some of the more rare and endemic bird species (Pel’s Fishing Owl, African Skimmer, White Backed Night Heron, Narina Trogon, to name but a few). It is a true birder’s paradise! Crocodiles and hippos abound in this river system as well as the rare Sitatunga antelope. In the afternoon your boat trip is booked for 3 hours. Times to be confirmed. You can either fish or do a bit of birding. Your guide will be with you.

 

Day 5: Tuesday 24 March 2020

Shakawe River Lodge In the morning you can go out on your boat for either a fishing experience or birding experience. Your guide will be waiting for you. You have the boat for your private use for the day, so please liaise with the guide on how long you would like to be on the boat and what times you would like to go out.

Day 6: Wednesday 25 March 2020

Tsodilo Hills

 

 Shakawe River Lodge offers day trips to the majestic Tsodilo Hills, to view the impressive Bushman Paintings from a time gone by. A mere one hour’s drive away, you will be driven by our professional guides and enjoy a guided tour through the Hills, followed by a picnic lunch, before returning to the lodge in the late afternoon. Soft drinks and water are included in your lunch. 

 

Day 7: Thursday 26 March 2020

Shakawe River Lodge In the morning you can go out on your boat for either a fishing experience or birding experience. Your guide will be waiting for you. You have the boat for your private use for the day, so please liaise with the guide on how long you would like to be on the boat and what times you would like to go out.

 

 

Day 8: Friday 27 March 2020 

Tautona Lodge Today you will pack up your tent and drive back to Ghanzi. Check into Tautona Lodge for your 1 night of camping Day at leisure

 

 

Day 9: Saturday 28 March 2020

Kalahari Rest Check out of Tautona Lodge in Ghanzi and drive to Kang, You will stay at Kalahari Rest for 1-night camping. Day at leisure.

 

Day 10: Sunday 29 March 2020 Today is your final day in Botswana, as you leave the country, you are left with amazing experiences and have met amazing people. Drive to the border post at Pioneers Gate.
