Getting into the bush involves packing.
And that is really a task I do not enjoy.
Invariably I leave at least ONE item at home.
This despite lists, planning and the best of intentions.
Also being a photographer involves a LOT of kit,
cables and a variety of battery chargers.
I remember an International trip
where I forgot to pack both of my camera battery chargers.
That certainly taught me a lesson as there were
no replacements available.
Raise a paw if you prefer to shoot in Mono
or Black & White as it was called back in the days of film cameras.
This hind paw belongs to a young lion,
who was doing what most of his species
does for 20 hours a day…sleeping.
There is something evocative about
an image stripped of its colour component.
A White Rhino proving that he looks good in grey.
And with a horn on his face.
Although we have two species of rhino in Africa,
the Black and the White,
both are, in fact, shades of grey

Not really, buffalo just look like you owe them money…
They are certainly not like domestic cattle
and they are liable to attack humans for no apparent reason.

Purportedly the Hippo is said to be responsible
for more deaths than all of the Big 5 combined.
However, there is ongoing research to show that crocodiles
might be partly to blame as their attacks often go unreported.
Without Vultures to clean up after predators,
our reserves would be filled with rotting carcasses
and the diseases that that would bring.
A face that only a mother could love?
This male warthog proudly shows off his protuberances
and at the same time his two sets of tusks.

it means that they have survived another night.

Is he capable of cognitive thought?
Or is he trying to see if there are prey in the vicinity?
