It is not during my visits to the various destinations that I get to visit
where the work “happens”.
It is once I return home and the editing and writing commences,
then the work actually begins.
Not that I am complaining mind you.
Working from home has both advantages and disadvantages
and deadlines still have to be adhered to.
I was due to visit Kwafubesi Tented Safari Camp in December 2018,
however a family medical emergency put paid to that.
With the medical issues behind me,I returned in March,2019.
The garden that I saw being planted on my first visit in April, 2018
has now taken shape and it welcomes guests as they arrive.
Rocks and indigenous succulents that are water wise,
a great addition to this camp.
A welcoming drink to slake my thirst
after a long drive from Johannesburg.
Cool and refreshing.
The interior of the main building houses a bar, lounge and dining area.
Not many changes since I was here last,
so it was just like coming home.
And the friendly greeting that I got from the staff who remembered me
just enhanced that sensation.
Folded napkins always fascinate me.
These were no exception.
Even simply folded into a standing fan they exude class and a touch of finesse.
The wines of choice for the various meals that were on offer.
And speaking of food…
These are just some of the breakfast, lunch and dinner meals
that I enjoyed during my stay.
It rained most of the one afternoon that I was in camp.
Luckily it started after lunch, when I was back at my tent.
And it stopped before the game drive commenced.
In between the heaven opened and torrents poured down
on the parched soil.

It might be called a tent,
but it is the epitome of style and elegance inside.
No sleeping on fold out camp beds!
A huge comfortable bed, surrounded by a mosquito net.
Snuggled down under a warm duvet with crisp linen,
an afternoon nap was definitely on the cards.
At the rear is a tent is a full bathroom with both a shower and a bath.
The water is drinkable, and there are electrical power outlets
to charge phones and other electronic items.
During the day, this dead tree is a perch for a variety of bird life.
By night and in the light of my torch,
it took on a different dimension.
It attracted my attention on my previous visit
and it did again this time.
This is Stan, the resident porcupine.
He only appears at night and he is not well disposed to being photographed.

Under the overhanging branches of the nearby tree
it took on an almost magical appearance.
Time to get some sleep as I will have to be up early
for the morning game drive.
Once you report to the main reception at Mabula,
a field guide will come to collect you to transfer you to the camp.
It is situated about 15-20 minutes away,
and as the road goes through the game reserve
who might be in for some surprise game viewing.
And by the way, Google maps still has not rectified their directions.
If you are going to follow them , then use “Bela Bela” as you destination.
Once there you can enter “Mabula” to get you to the correct car park.
