While on my recent coach tour of Croatia,
I entered into a “competition” with one of the other tour party members.
This is the image that started it off.
We both, independently of each other, took the almost identical picture.
Game on…who could find the most interesting stairs.
This is the short staircase to the synagogue in Split, Croatia.
One of the oldest in Europe, it was built in the 16th century.
A guest house entrance in Split.
One of many similar staircases that I found during my walks
The rules of engagement were that the stairs had to lead somewhere.
Another early morning find.
I wanted to “win” so badly that I often got up at 04h30
in order to find another set
Some steps were longer than others…
The entrance to a hostel in Mostar.
Not so much the stairs that attracted my attention as the graffiti on the walls
Old or modern…they all counted.
This from a building on the foreshore in Split
The morning after the night before?
Probably one of the saddest of the many that I photographed.
Amongst the bombed ruins in Mostar
Leading up to the door of a hotel tucked away in a back alley in Split
These iron balustrades could be found in
almost every city that we visited
From Dubrovnick…Kings Landing
In order to find something different,
I often wandered around in the back streets and alleys.
Seeing that the walled cities are relatively small,
it is almost impossible to get lost
I am not certain which is older…
the steps or the plant.
One of the longest, at Lake Bled
I cannot remember where this was,
but it did qualify…
My favourite set of stairs.
Pretty…
And finally…in Budapest.
I never did discover what a privilege breakfast was.
Next time YOU are on a trip,
try to find something that will make your journey that little bit different.

We flew with this airline…and many thanks to KLM for the upgrade!
Economy Comfort gives you extra leg room
and a seat that reclines further than the regular economy seats.
An absolute bonus on the Long leg from Jhb- Amsterdam and back.

GammaTek is my powerbank supplier of choice.
One of my problems is often lack of battery power
if I have been using the camera on my phone.
I have tried many “powerbanks”,
but the majority drain before they can fully recharge my device.
This is where this Powerbank has the edge…
it can recharge my phone up to 7 times,
before it needs to be recharged.
