Kyrka…the first of two waterfall destinations that we would visit during our trip.
Unlike the second, here tourist and locals were allowed to swim.
I did not venture in, but my wife did and she said it was “refreshing”.
A synonym for “very cold” perhaps?
The water is crystal clear as it tumbles over the rocks and through foliage
Some of the bird life…these Mallard Ducks could be found
in the quieter streams were the current was not too strong
The current did not seem to bother these fish.
They tended to congregate where the water was flowing quite fast
A few Damselflies.

The sound of rushing water is like waves breaking on the shore.
Calming and hypnotic at the same time
I the cool shade of the overhanging vegetation,
the stream makes its way towards the larger lakes.

The water is a shade of blue that is difficult to describe
This is where visitors get to swim.
There is a tea garden, together with some shops
where people can buy souvenirs
as well as experience some of the crafts that were practised here centuries ago.
When our tour guide said that she was saving the best for last,
she was not lying.
If I had thought that Kyrka was spectacular,
then Plitvice Lakes certainly took my breath away
No swimming is allowed her so the water looks almost non-existent in this image
The falls here are higher and more spectacular than anywhere else I have visited.
It might not have the water volume of Victoria or Niagara Falls,
but what it does have is vast numbers of smaller falls
Breathtaking is such an over-used adjective,
but here it was most appropriate.
The walkways cling to the side of the craggy walls.
Plitvice Lakes has been declared a UNESCO Heritage Site.
A long exposure to show the majesty of nature’s wonder.
Water, water everywhere…
Rushing over timber, rocks and foliage.
A rather large land snail.
There is a ferry that will get tourists across the lake
if you do not have the time…or the inclination…to hike for long distances.
Time to say goodbye as we head of for our final overnight stop in Croatia.
