Food at Ekuthuleni Lodge. Welgevonden Game Reserve. Waterberg

1247

This is the view that guests enjoy when eating at the lodge.
You can be sitting on the deck next to the swimming pool,
outside the main building
or on the verandah that adjoins the TV lounge/bar.
This opne plain also has a waterhole that attracted a variety of game.
Including elephant and rhino.
What wonderful dining “companions”.

Chef “Laptop” certainly has an eye for presentation.
And both of these dishes formed my breakfast on one of the mornings

This was another, totally differently presented, breakfast.

A swan carved out of an apple…
Who would have thought that this quality of food presentation
could be found in the middle of the African bush.

This quiche was served at lunch.
Absolutely delicious,
but too much to eat in one sitting…
hence it came on the game drive as a snack.

THIS is the waterhole that I mentioned earlier.
Rhino and waterbuck stopped by on this occasion,

Time for dinner…

Fine dining by a truly talented young Chef.
Soup, obviously

Rack of lamb with delicious vegetables.

And, of course, desert…

Ekuthuleni is one of the few lodges that still serves a full lunch.
It was pointed out that guest pick up at the main gate is at 12.30.
It takes approximately 45 minutes to get to the lodge,
hence a good meal is a great way to say “Welcome”.
Again, the presentation is so beautiful
that you almost don’t want to destroy it

Something different for the international visitors,
a biltong and egg salad

Fried potato balls…awesome.

At this particular lunch,
there was also hake and pizza on offer.

My final dinner.
Spring roll as a starter.

I have only recently learned to eat my steak “medium rare”…
and what a difference that makes to the taste.

One of the best deserts I have ever eaten.
A lemon soufflé that is served (and cooked) in a hollowed out lemon!

I wonder if this plant could be used as decoration?
Not too certain if the bugs would be seen as “extra” protein.

And presentation was not confined to the lodge meals.
Look at the way this game drive  drinks stop was been decorated.

Chef “Laptop” and one of his colleagues.
Possibly discussing the next meal?
