The iconic Oyster Box, KZN.

In case you are in any doubt at what hotel I recently stayed at.

When the hotel was originally built,
none of the “skyscrapers” in the background
were even in the planning stage!

In fact, when my in-laws came here for their honeymoon 54 years agao,
none of the roads were even tarred.
They were all still old farm dirt roads.

Although the hotel has undergone several changes,
the most recent being between 2007-2009,
returning guests from pre 2007, WILL recognize this revolving
door and the floor tiles.

Champers or juice as a welcoming drink

Even though the hotel has only  three floors,
there are two working elevators.

An early morning view from our balcony.

This was my “office” for the duration of our stay.
If only I could replicate this view in Johannesburg.

When last did YOU stay at a hotel that delivers
a morning paper to your room in this fashion?

A view of “that” lighthouse from the Terrace Restaurant.

Even on a mid-week morning it was almost full.

This was part of the buffet…cereals, cheese, scones etc.
There is also a hot breakfast section as well as waffles and crumpets…

An Oyster Box specialty.
Fresh oysters and Champers for breakfast.
My question is…
“If Oysters are an aphrodisiac,
surely they should be served at lunch or dinner”?

My wife was tasked with having one for her Mom.

The tiled ceiling of the Terrace Restaurant…
No matter where you look in this wonderful hotel,
there is always SOMETHING to catch your attention

The pool looks out over the Indian Ocean.

A quiet spot to read a book
or just to sit and think

Like Skabenga, the resident hotel cat.
He seems to go from area to area testing out the “comfort” rating.

This staircase survived the renovations
and has pride of place in the main reception area.

In my dealings with this company to date
I have only met with friendly and efficient staff
who have a passion for their customers.
Based on my experiences over the past few months
and in several cities, I highly recommend them
