Because of the heat,
the morning walks for the Trails Guide module start at 04h30.
Trails Guide Bruce Lawson,
has logged over 13000 hours of trails walking.
He is currently helping the trainees with the
Trails Guide module
On one of my walks, I learned that certain insects cannot see red.
Hence this plant choosing this colour for “camouflage”
With scenery like this to walk in…
who needs a vehicle!
The Waterberg as a backdrop are truly spectacular
Guided walks are not about getting close.
They are about observing and leaving without disturbing the animal
These used to be farm lands.
The windmill and a broken cement dam are testimony to that
This wildebeest could have died of natural causes
as there was only evidence that scavengers had fed off the carcass.
At this point after a two hour walk,
we should have headed back to camp for breakfast.
By Massi, our guide had other ideas.
We headed up into Buffalo Gorge where the trainees were
going to get some “down time”…
Hadley(Boston) and Ludwig (Copenhagen)
practice their “bird” poses
The trees cling to the side of the gorge.
Books were brought along,
but not much studying was evident
Paul takes the plunge…
After checking for Hippos
Anke (Germany) has a moment of quiet contemplation
Bruce Lawson considering which end of the rifle to clean
A couple of the students together with Massi,
have fun with some logs
Damien (Durban) shows how its done.
I am not certain if “dive bombing” is part of the course.
If it was, he would get distinctions.
One of the largest flies I have EVER seen
Bromophila caffra.
It does not have a common name,
but I have been told I can call it a Red-eyed Fly.
And one of the smallest frogs!
A Snoring Puddle Frog…

This is Thato at the ORT branch of Europcar.
What a nice young man…service with a smile.
I had no idea where the car rentals were at the airport,
and despite some confusing ACSA signage
I eventually found what I was looking for.
I had requested a Stepway which was ready and waiting for collection.
To date, all my interactions with this company have been
fast, efficient and very friendly.
Time to head North…well NW actually…
The Waterberg beckons.
