My trip to East London “actually” started at the Premier Hotel,
in Kempton Park!
Not what I was expecting at all!
A most pleasant surprise…
But more of that in future postings, where the Premier properties
will be covered in detail.
We begin our tour of East London at this monument to German settlers
Mercedes Benz have a plant in East London
and are very involved in conservation in the area
Let this be a warning that there are “critters”
with teeth in the sea of this holiday destination coastline
A picture is worth a thousand words…
or in this case,
at least one cup of coffee.
Our tour guide, Siseko, explaining the boardwalk
to Carolyn, my wife
Duncan Village…
There seemed to be many playgrounds available for the children
that live here.
There are many schools to look after the youngsters.
Zamani Day Care Centre in Duncan Village,
has been in operation for 15 years.
A visit to the local Art centre.
Here we found this partially sighted weaver,
who explained his craft to us.
Needless to say, one of his pieces will now be residing in our home.
Major decision time…
WHAT to have for lunch.
We ate that this wonderful “township” restaurant,
Mthombo’s Palace
Our hosts are on the right of the picture…
My choice…
For a venue that opened less than a month ago,
the food was tasty and well presented.
One of the more somber moments of our day.
We visit the grave of the political activist Steve Biko.
We also visited the museum dedicated to his honour
Make time to visit if you are in the area (King Williams Town)
as it will explain much of the political landscape of South Africa
back in the ’60’s and 70’s.
A statue to Biko can be found outside the
East London City Hall
Not a man in a van…
My wife at the end of a VERY long, but most informative day
And we finally make it back to our suite at the Premier Hotel ICC.
And a reserved dinner reservation!
Accommodation in East London was supplied by
Premier Hotels & Resorts.

Considering that it was early in the morning,
Ayanda was most helpful and friendly…
Highly recommended!
We used the services of this company
while touring East London and the surrounds.
