The 12 Apostles Hotel and Spa in Cape Town

It is said that you only have one opportunity to make a first impression.
The 12 Apostles certainly lived up to that…
This posting is my first impression of this awesome hotel in Cape Town.

From the moment guests enter the lobby,
they are transported back to a time when excellent service was the norm,
rather than the exception…
For some reason the hotel and the decor gave me the feeling that
I had boarded a cruise liner.

A seating area off the main reception area.
Blue seems to be the predominant colour throughout the hotel.
Giving a feeling of calm opulence.

And this was what awaited my wife and I when we opened the door
to our room…truly spectacular.
Once again, blue features.
The linen is 300 thread count and custom made for 12A.
The hotel also boasts one of the best pillow menus I have come across.
From standard and neck support to anti-snore and a boomerang pillow,
there is a type to suit almost every need.

The seating area that allows guests the feeling of being in an apartment
rather than a hotel room.

A view from the bedroom.

Probably the most difficult bathroom I have ever had to shoot.
Why?
There are mirrors on every wall…
NOT what I want to be looking at seeing I have been on holiday
for almost three weeks

Our view from the veranda…
The weather was playing its part.

Looking back to Camps Bay

Part of the 12 Apostles range behind the hotel.
Caught in the late afternoon sunlight

The Cafe Grill…
Guests can either sit here and enjoy a meal,
or they can have it delivered to their room

For some reason the hotel reminds me of a cruise ship
This staircase specifically.

Feel like a late night “dip”?
This outdoor pool is heated!

Differential #1:
Sweets on demand…
Tired of taking a “handful”?
Then use the special cones to take some to nibble on

Differential #2:
The art work.
One of the finest displays I have ever seen outside of a public gallery

Differential #3:
An in-house movie theatre.
So, dinner and a movie without having to leave the hotel.

Differential #4:
How many times have you walked
into your hotel room the discover housekeeping?
With this on the door, guests are not surprised.

Differential #5:
A PROPER sized bar of soap.
I wonder how much hotels REALLY save by only supplying
a slither of soap…
Not all soaps are created equal.
Here you can get Rooibos, Oatmeal, Lavender, Tea Tree Body Bar
as well as an assortment of ‘flavoured” glycerine and cream bar soaps.
If only ALL hotels would adopt this size as “standard”.
The B/Africa products are created exclusively for the hotel

Sunset over the Atlantic Ocean…

Bedtime…my wife tucked up in the wonderful linen I mentioned earlier.
This is the General Manager of the 12A,
Michael Nel…he was a lot younger than I thought,
however his credentials are impeccable.
Hear what he has to say about the hotel:

The “team” that I dealt with at Cape Town International Airport.
Good service and friendly smiles…
Europcar, the official car rental supplier
to “Travel & Things”
A motto I like to live by.
My bank manager is not always happy about this though…
