This is the view from my window.
The Burj Khalifa…one of several iconic buildings here in Dubai.
Burj means tower…and because of the price of land,
the buildings tend to go up…and up…and up!
Looking west from my window
Our hotel, not the tallest by ANY stretch of the imagination,
but extremely comfortable and with VERY friendly staff.
I still have to try out the pool.
These have sides and a top that can be drawn for privacy
or if the sun gets to hot to handle
For a moment I thought that I was on a cruise ship…
And then I realised that I was in the middle of a desert.
I was told that the “real” desert is only a 15 minute ride away
This area leads of the main reception area as well as the dining room.
Although open to the elements,
there are powerful air conditioners in every corner
The diningroom…
Breakfast juice…served in a most novel way
REAL HONEY…
Cannot get better than this.
They do like sweet foods here…
Just one of the many pastries on offer at breakfast
There is a supermarket next to the hotel…
And look what I found!
Old and new(?)
side by side
I have NO idea how the work force operates in this heat.
This must be one of very few countries where workers prefer the night shift
The Dubai rapid transport system station
one of many that I saw
But I only saw one train…
Water plays a major part of this city.
There are lots of fountains,
this one was of particular interest as it paid tribute to
a traditional fishing boat.
There seemed to be an inordinate number of medical clinics.
Everything from dental to neuro-spinal…and most conditions in between.
And finally I got to see the sea…
But only for a moment,
and I did not even get the opportunity to get my toes wet!
The Zac Brown Band and Jimmy Buffet did…
