Our “home” for tonight…
Augustine Ave B&B in Ladysmith
Our hosts, the affable Nicky and Christo.
And “Kat”…one of several on the property.
Yes it looked welcoming but it was COLD!
That did NOT deter my wife from hopping in for a quick
“cool off” swim after our drive from Johannesburg.
Even Nicky was impressed…

The quirky but welcoming Garage Bar.
All sorts of interesting items to browse through.
This is where we had our dinner,
lamb shank with mash and spinach…DELICIOUS!
and some of the BEST dinner conversation we have enjoyed in a long time.
It has been a while since I last saw one of these…

And even a gym!
The seating area outside our room
A comfy bed with pillows that are in the running for my
Best Pillow Award…
Well done, I am NOT easy to please when it comes to pillows
A proper desk with plenty of electrical outlets.
I am writing this posting seated here.
There is also a coffee and tea station as well as a small fridge…BONUS!
As we are having lamb shank for dinner, the microwave will NOT be used

The B&B has fast Wi-Fi, always a plus for me.
A VERY large bathroom with both a bath AND a shower.
I will be spoiled for choice in the morning
There are two self catering cottages on the property.
Away from the main house, they offer privacy and seclusion,
if that is what you require.

Situated away from the main house,
they are spacious and well appointed
The garden is a riot of colour and verdant trees.
and in the distance…The Drakensberg.
The garden is lit at night and the sound of the water feature
lulled me to sleep.

Another part of the garden at night…
Dinner is offered to guests as an extra that can be organized in advance.
No need to eat “fast food” with no nutritional value!
Morning over KZN.
After a good sleep it is almost time to head of to Howick and the Meander.
The breakfast room in the main house.
Time to find out what is on the menu.
There seem to be dozens of guest houses/ B&B’s in Ladysmith.
If you come in via the R103, then the name on the top of the board in the main street
is the Augustine Ave B&B.
And it deserves to be there!
We highly recommend it and it is a pleasure to be in the company of the owners.
