When our Insight Vacations group visited the Catedral de Cordoba,
we found this art competition in progress.
This was the first artist that I noticed
And her palette of vibrant colours
There were artists scattered through the courtyard…
All choosing different aspects of the buildings
Some were painting alone,
as far away from other artists as possible, or so it seemed
This artist had chosen a palette knife as her “weapon” of choice.
Slowly the canvasses were coming to life.
I really liked this water colour
Of all the works I saw, this was the only one that was “child-like”
and had figures in it
This picture drew a lot of attention from the passing locals
and tourists.
And his medium of choice…
While it was easy for me to see what had inspired each artist,
Try as I might, I could not find the inspiration for this.
There were also artists working inside the Catedral
And even though they were “inside” the inspiration,
many of the artists were using electronic devices as reference.
This particular fellow had chosen the most detailed are to put on canvas
“I bet I can paint with a BIG brush
AND one hand tied behind my back”…
And the challenge was on
This picture was almost complete when others were only just starting.
It was one of my favourites.
Not Jackson Pollack, but he was working at speed…
And, in case you were wondering about mess,
all the artists were working on LARGE drop cloths.
Artists are not really into “tidy”,
or are they?
Perhaps he was just in a hurry to get his picture completed
This young artist’s picture was my favourite.
She was the only one who took the time to chat to me.
Her English was not great, but it was WAY better than my Spanish.
Her name is Maria Cristina Fernandez Rodriguez

We had to leave at 14h30 and the competition only finished at 17h00,
so I have no idea who won
or what will be done with the complete works.
And speaking of complete works,
I was able to watch this fellow from beginning to (almost) the end.
