I return to Port Louis, Mauritius…with SummerTimes

2344

Off on the new highway towards Port Louis.
This was still under construction during my last visit in 2013
A Tamil Temple on the side of the highway

At 860m this is not quite Kilimanjaro,
but the rock on the right hand side does a great balancing act.

We stopped of in Grand Baie…
It is difficult to get a shot without tourists getting involved.

A Heron, almost blending into the volcanic rock

I have never seen an ice-cream truck like this before…
Pimp my truck!

Port Louis has the oldest race track in the Southern Hemisphere.
We went to the Citadel to have a look at the views out over the city

Back in the city center,
traffic congestion is the name of the game

Street vendors abound

I do like these street lights

She must have been a busy woman,
as she also has a street named after her in South Africa

Modern technology is everywhere

Back again…

I do hope that these are tied down.

This local wood carver is well known internationally.

A couple of the waterfront buildings

A bridge too far?
Going nowhere slowly?
Currently, just going nowhere.
There is no longer a working railroad on the island

These buildings dot the landscape.
They used to process lime.

I counted more cemeteries that I have ever seen before.
I have been told that space is now becoming a problem
and cremations are being encouraged

Happy election bunting…
These are the colours of the ruling party.

I can highly recommend SummerTimes

Vinay took us to Port Louis
He was punctual, knowledgeable and  passionate.
A good combination for a driver/guide.

Aside from airport and inter hotel transfers,
they also offer a variety of excursions around the island
And considering that Mauritius is only 45km across and 65km from top to bottom,
nothing is too far away.
