Road trippin’ in the KZN Midlands…

806
Road trip time again.
My wife and I headed down to the Midlands Meander in KZN.
This was where we spend our first two nights.
The VERY new, The Falls self catering cottages
Situated off the R103 in Balgowan, the cottages are about 20km from Howick
I am not so certain about the visit being “serendipitous”
but it was a great place to relax and unwind.
The interiors have been done by the owners Derek and Cheryl Wigmore.
The wood burning stove is brand new ( and remained so even after our visit)
I mentioned to Derek that there were not any matches,
and when we returned from dinner we found a box…
precariously balanced on the front door handle.
Well handled Derek!
There was extra firewood…outside in the freezing cold.
But it could also be used for the braai (barbecue) that is supplied
Or I could have brought it in BEFORE the temperature dropped…
The attention to detail is what adds the differential
to this self catering establishment
No shower in our unit,
but a bath big enough to soak in
The other cottage is designed for a family with a large lounge and two bedrooms.
The bathroom has a shower, but no bath
Every window has a stunning view of the surrounding hills and valleys
A BIG comfy bed with “proper” linen.
No electric blanket, but the duvet and blankets kept us both more than warm enough
A small gas hob has been fitted.
No stove, but there is a microwave.
The kitchen separates the “lounge” from the en-suite bedroom
The aforementioned lounge.
There is a TV and DVD player
The veranda was welcoming even as the temperature dropped
Currently there are only two cottages,
this is the view looking towards them from the stables
The cows belong to the next door neighbour,
they do give the place a rather “English” feel
The river at the bottom of the property.
I have it on good authority that the boys from the Michaelhouse school
use this as their “spa”…
Night falls in the valley
“Red sky at night, is a Shepard’s delight
The sun disappearing over the horizon
Almost time for bed…
The cottage does look warm and welcoming in the chilly night air,
and it was!

“Travel & Things” is an entrant in this competition.
The results should be out soon.
