The final performance of the Waldorf String Band.

2258

After 27 years, 9 CDs and 3 DVD’s,
this was the final performance of the Waldorf String Band
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQqN8K0VRVw

And the look on founder member Rael Birns’s face says it all.
He first introduced three of the singers who had worked with the band over the years

Andre Hatting was up first

She was followed by professional musician Kristel…

And she had brought husband Rory along

Kathy Raven completed the trio

She did a version of the Leonard Cohen classic, “Hallelujah”
that would have made him proud!

But the evening belonged to the band.
Co-founder Rael

Fiddler Iain…
Unfortunately Iain lost his fight with cancer
on August 15, 2015.
RIP Iain, you will be sadly missed.

Co- founder,banjo player John

Guitar picking Alan

Flutist Jimmy…

And finally, hiding in the background, Nippy

Rael and Iain do their (in)famous Dolly Parton impression

Kathy joined in…

As did Kristel…

If you are doing Celtic music,
there has to be a banjo

Almost time to say “goodbye”…

Jimmy and Iain play a final song,
the band take there final bows…
and 27 years comes to an end.
Thanks for the music fellows…

I remember where I was in 1963 when JFK was shot.
I remember 1969 when man landed on the moon…
Elvis died in 1977
I remember where I was in 1980 when I heard the news that John Lennon had been killed
and I will remember where I was in January 2014,
when we said farewell to the Waldorf String Bang.
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
