Nottens Bush Camp, Sabi Sands.

2431

This was my first sighting on the drive from the airstrip to the camp.
A sub adult African Fish Eagle with what is left of a Barbel(catfish)

I found this mixed group at a water hole near the camp entrance.
The Zebra were being a bit “crazy” which made the young giraffe skittish.

Kicking the day off?

I arrive at camp to a couple of welcoming drinks…

And some cold water for a quick “freshen-up” before game drive

My new travelling companion, now named Gene…as in Genome…
Here he is on his first game drive from (g)Nottens Bush Camp

Looking like a statue,
My first elephant of the trip

He was a young bull,
trying to figure out who or what we were.

A young Nyala…

There were a lot of these White-backed Vultures hanging about.
We found no signs of a carcass…

This lioness, part of the Southern Pride had injured her back leg
and was feeling very sorry for herself…

Our first leopard sighting of the trip.
Always an exciting moment…

He is the Mahlatini Male…

The injured lioness was heading his way…
and he decided that discretion was the better part of valour

A large male elephant enjoying an evening stroll

My vehicle companions…

Our ranger, Jeff, was able to spot this chameleon…
Well done that man!

Back to the lodge for dinner…
I came back to find this in my room…
But I resisted the temptation of both the chocolates and the Champers…

And decided to do some editing by paraffin lamp instead.
A good ending to a wonderful first day in the bush
