City tour…Kigali part 2

1986

I found this little chap on my bedroom wall…

The atrium of the Serena Kigali Hotel…
A full posting on the hotel will follow soon.

Our hosts…
Dennis from Rwandair and Karin representing Serena

Our visit to the local craft market.

Time to say goodbye to rest of the group…
I am staying on to do some more work…

The view from my breakfast table…
lonely without the group chatter.

Reminds me of home.

The new convention centre next to the airport…
I have admiration for both the architects and the construction company…
To me it looks confusing to say the least!

The remains of the Presidential plane that shot down is inside,
unfortunately, I was not allowed to take pictures without paying a fee.

There is interesting bird life in town…
There was a colony of these Yellow-Billed Storks in town.

It is amazing what can be carried on the back of a bicycle.

Can you imagine seeing this on the streets of South Africa?

There is a visible police presence.
After 4pm, the army patrols the streets.
Making this one of the safest cities in the world.

The American flag flies high over their compound in Kigali

A view of Kigali…

Guess which nationality is building this?

Pelicans in the centre of Kigali…
Who would have guessed.
A first for me as I have never seen these “in the wild” before

Gorillas in the middle of town…
But I will return to visit them in their natural habitat.
On June 22, 2013 there will be a very important baby gorilla naming ceremony in Rwanda.
