Sunday in the park…

2699

It has been a while since I last visited the Sandton Field and Study Centre.
And it was certainly “buzzing”.
Aside from the myriad of people who were out on a mid-Autumn afternoon,
the benches on the banks of the river caught my attention.

As did this “ruin”…
I am uncertain of its origins, but I will try to discover what it used to be.
Watch this space.

Trees against a Highveld sky…

Reflections.

Running water always catches my attention.
This weir was no exception.

As I took this shot of the Jukskei River ,
I realized that I was witnessing a “kill”…
If you look carefully you will spot a hovering Giant Kingfisher about to pounce

A successful hunt!
This Giant Kingfisher had just caught a HUGE freshwater crab…

It took several minutes…

And lots of bashing before it was successful in swallowing it’s prey.
This species sighting was a first for me…and I only had to travel 20 minutes to witness this!
This is why I love living in Africa.

Another view of the weir…

In a situation like this, I often wonder who is having more fun…
Granddad or grandson?

Swings are always an attraction…

This is the real reason we were at this venue…
Happy second birthday Daniel…

A budding pilot perhaps?

The venue also provided a jumping castle for all the parties to use.
This young guest decided that it could also be used as a hammock.

Forget the “United colours of Benetton”…

These are the United colours of Autumn.

This Spaniel puppy found a discarded ice-cream cone…
With so many dogs around, I am certain that NOTHING goes to waste!

My wife doing her bit for “Save the Rhino”…If you are planning a children’s party, then this is a great venue for that.
They supply food and everything you need to make the party a success.
And the best thing…
When it is all over, you pack up the presents and leave!
