Glenalmond Hotel, not in a Glen but in Sandton.

2807

The hotel is situated in Daisy Street in Sandton…
Not quite the Scottish Glen that one of the owners hankers after,
but close enough to all the amenities that the modern traveller might require.
Because of the proximity to Sandton and its environs, many of the guests are business people who make this their home.

“BEWARE OF CHILDREN”…
Truth be told they have always scared me…
this sign only serves to confirm that.

There is still some summer colour left at reception
The staff were warm and welcoming.
Although check-in time was 2pm, and we were there on time,
it did take a while to find the key to our accommodation.
But it was all sorted out with a minimum of fuss.

More flowers…
or should that be singular?

A contemplative spot before having breakfast…
or afternoon tea(coffee)

This poster says it all…
Although our initial impression was “townhouse complex-turned-boutique-accommodation”
the ambience of the property grew on us.
Frank, the marketing manager, tells me that they get a lot of repeat business
and we could see why.

Breakfast is an optional extra…
We can highly recommend the French Toast!

It was somewhat chilly, so the outdoor seating area was not an option.

The pool begs to be utilized…
however the weather was not conducive to trying it out on this visit.

The sky over Sandton…
and by extension, over the rest of Johannesburg as well.

With all these quiet areas…

large established trees…

and meandering pathways,
it is easy to forget that the property lies in the shadow of the “mecca of retail”,
Sandton City

And just to prove that fact…

The entrance to our apartment.

Our new Samsonite luggage makes its first appearance…
The bed was very comfortable,
but once again the pillows leave a lot to be desired.
Perhaps a choice of pillows could be on offer?
I have stayed at a hotel where the pillows were marked…
“Soft”, “Medium” and “Hard”…
Just a thought…

My wife relaxing in the lounge.
As the units are self catering, there is a clean and well stocked kitchen
as well as a dining area.

Not to sure about the toilet paper origami…
On the plus side, the shower had the best water pressure!

I did remember to leave the key…

If you are looking for something to do while staying there,
Pop across and take pictures of people taking pictures of each other at this iconic statue
Even though it is out of proportion, masses still want to be captured between his legs.

As Glenalmond does not do dinner, we had to venture forth in search of our evening repast.
After a futile search for the burger restaurant we were keen to eat at,
we found this great establishment on Rivonia Road, 2km west of the hotel.
Great food, reasonable prices and attentive management and staff.
