Bush v Beach…you decide

2273
I was recently sent on assignments to both a bush and beach destinations
Although totally different, there are some similarities that I thought I would share…

The first destination was Madikwe Safari Lodge.
situated in one of my favourite game reserves,
Madikwe, in the North West Province.
Thanks to Federal Air for flying me there…again!

I stayed at Lelapa lodge that has recently undergone a major refurbishment…
The final phase being the rooms that now look like this…
Muted colours and tasteful rugs on the floor, a haven to come back to after a game drive.

Bush breaks for me are not all about the “big and hairies”…
Sometimes it is the little things that make the difference on a visit.
Like this cricket that was getting rid of it’s exoskeleton by eating it!

Cuteness plays a big part on a game drive…
Let all the guests go “AAAAAAAAAGH”.

From short to tall…

To one of my favourite photographic subjects…

Not all guests will own up to the fact that they want to see a kill during a bush excursion.
It took me 47 years to see my first, and it was a humbling experience watching a life being taken in order to provide others with sustenance…

And, of course, our African sunsets and sunrises…

I did mention the little creatures earlier…

AND… bird life!
Madikwe Game Reserve is Malaria free!
Great news, especially for families with children.

This property was recently acquired by the More Group and is currently undergoing an extensive makeover.
That being said, the work is being carried out with minimal interruption to the daily guest activities.
Congratulations to Jeremy Clayton(GM) and his staff on a job well done.

The bush break I have mentioned above,
happened just a few weeks before I was asked by the same PR company to visit Mauritius…

The only way in is to fly…same as my bush break…
only on a bigger plane
and in Business Class.

The sunsets too were spectacular…

Something you cannot do in the bush…
collect sea shells…or in this case Sea Urchins…

I did get to see this “kill”…

I can sit and watch waves for hours…
They have a calming and mesmerizing effect on me…
Not something you can readily find inland.

Lots of great seafood…

Lots of new species to discover on Mauritius
This is a Red Whiskered Bulbul

Lots of swimming pools…
This is the main building at Le Touessrok Hotel…

Palm trees, just to prove I was on an island

The infinity pool with a view at La Pirogue.
So, which type of holiday do you prefer?
