The Lilac-Breasted Roller is the national bird of Botswana and this one was one hand to greet as when we arrived at Madikwe Private Game Lodge recently.
I had been to the camp before but unfortunately for me this sign was the only thing that I remember as I was laid low by a virus that kept me from enjoying all the facilities the camp has to offer. For this trip I arrived healthy and ready to enjoy our weekend
I did not even have to leave camp to enjoy my first sighting…this elephant was at the waterhole in front of Little Madikwe
The lodge is built around the boulders that are found on the koppie…much easier than trying to remove them…
This herd of 23 elephants spent some time at the waterhole in front of the main lodge building before silently moving off back into the bush
A Purple Roller, cousin to the aforementioned Lilac version…To find out more about that Madikwe Hills has to offer, visit www.madikwehills.com
The property is part of a group that includes Kings Camp and Leopard Hills. To find out more about this stunning collection, visit www.seasonsinafrica.comÂ
