Madikwe Hills…come and take the tour with me

The Lilac-Breasted Roller is the national bird of Botswana and this one was one hand to greet as when we arrived at Madikwe Private Game Lodge recently.

I had been to the camp before but unfortunately for me this sign was the only thing that I remember as I was laid low by a virus that kept me from enjoying all the facilities the camp has to offer. For this trip I arrived healthy and ready to enjoy our weekend

I did not even have to leave camp to enjoy my first sighting…this elephant was at the waterhole in front of Little Madikwe

Lunch on the first day was served on the deck…

The indoor dining area was utilized by the guests for breakfast

The bar in the lounge

The attention to detail is fantastic and this in just one of the pieces that caught my attention

Lunchtime dessert,before…

and after!

The lodge is built around the boulders that are found on the koppie…much easier than trying to remove them…

The camp has a resident “dassie” (Rock Hyrax) population that certainly kept my wife entertained!

Zebras make fantastic photographic subjects and this one was no different

This herd of 23 elephants spent some time at the waterhole in front of the main lodge building before silently moving off back into the bush

Although the largest land mammal, they still approached the water-hole with cautious determination

These youngsters, just like their human counterparts, seemed to enjoy playing in the muddy water

This Yellow-Billed Hornbill kept a beady eye on me as I photographed the herd.

This male warthog has the biggest set of tusks I have ever seen!

My view from my seat in the game drive vehicle…Max did move when I need to take pictures.

The Red-billed Oxpeckers cleaning up the next of a giraffe…
