Bryanston Organic Market

1640

As part of my Johannesburg market project,I recently visited the Bryanston Organic Market that is a great mix of colourful craft, food and fresh vegetables.

These wall hangings are made of coloured wire and look stunning.A great gift for an international visitor rather than the ubiquitous carved wooden giraffe!

Look hard enough and you will find something for everyone…

They might look very simple but these wooden crates are very useful. They are sold by Hotel Hope Ministries.(www.hotelhopeministries.org)

These caught my eye…

As did these knitted goods…everyone needs something knitted to hug.

The majority of stall holders were very accommodating about having their pictures taken, and thank you for that. This fellow sells stunning hand-made jewelry.

An Orchid stall…

I liked the colour of these pieces…

When things got tough there was a masseur on hand to ease away the knots…

Great fresh vegetables on offer…

Grow your own…

more delicious delights than you can shake a cake fork at.

I have no idea why these ballet shoes were hanging at a food stall…I shall return to find out what significance they have

Colourful Alpaca wool jerseys from South America.

Lots of “sparkly” things for the ladies…

and scratch patches for both young and old…

These glass picture frames are held together with stainless steel bolts, giving them a minimalist and contemporary look

the tea garden always buzzes on market day.The bandstand has been enlarged and moved to give visitors a better view of the performers.

This young lady was selling an interesting mix of eclectic products that included rain sticks.

Scarves make an interesting display.

I was glad to find a stall selling handmade wooden fountain pens…good to know that they are still in use.

More sparkly “things”…

Taking between 6 minutes to 3 hours, Dag Sumner can make magic out of cardboard and paper.

Hey Presto a Protea…

An African market would be incomplete without beadwork…

We are not in Kansas anymore…some felt slippers

Busy bees…but there is bottled honey available on sale.

My mid-visit snack.

A great place to browse…do people still send postcards?

So next time you are scratching your head for a gift with a difference, pay the market a visit.
