44 Stanley Ave, a haven in industrial Johannesburg

1914

Situated in the ex industrial area of Milpark, this series of old industrial buildings is now a haven for designer shops and restaurants.

Not a ceiling board in sight and “chandeliers” all over…

The basins in the “gents” caught my eye.Not an area that is photographed regularly.

The sitting areas make visitors forget that they are in the heart of Johannesburg…

There are several seating areas that are served by a variety of food outlets

There is live music at this venue…

This fellow was discovered outside a shop called “Religion”…I am not certain what merchandise they stock.

One of my favourite eateries…

The interior…

and some of their product on offer…

Why Cowboys? I have no idea.

The Salvation Cafe has the *BEST*! cheesecake in Johannesburg.Call them on 011 4827795 to reserve a slice as this sells out very quickly.A close second is their carrot cake.

A cool drink of water…that always has to be requested. Why not just bring to the table? I am certain that no customers have every turned down a glass of water. Unless it is an expensive imported bottled variety.

Wander away from the food and there are several shops that just cry out to be discovered.
The interestingly named bookstore,L’Elephant Terrible, offers books and art…a great shop to wander around in…

Perhaps it got the name from this sculpture?

This is a coffee shop with a difference…

Sometimes I just go in to smell the coffee.

You can watch your coffee beans roasting while enjoying a cuppa…
Aside from coffee they also sell a range of related products, like this “retro” grinder.

This brightly coloured Ganesha, the Hindu god of success, on display outside Imagine Africa certainly stood out from the rest

Personally, I did not know that candles could be made out of Soy…these are stocked at Imagine Africa.

Interesting wine racks, but the actual strength of the bottle neck concerns me.These are available at Vendange.

This elegant space used to be a motorcycle dealership!

There are intimate areas for those who want privacy…

Now I know where Pixar gets the lights in the opening credits of their films,La Basse-cour. This shop also offers a variety of interior design furniture and fittings.

I was trying to figure out if this statue would look good in our garden
or this piece? All available from La Basse-cour
In case you need to “tidy up” for a big meeting
you could just sit and chill here…
after all the good food, you will have to behave like an angel…

and to finish off your visit, a game or two of Bouls, a French form of  lawn bowls…
