Tanz Cafe strikes a chord for acoustic music

Last night saw the opening salvo being fired in the Acoustic Arts 5 competition hosted at this landmark venue.

Grant,Gary and the prize sponsor made sure that the evening went off without a hitch…and ran on time!

One of the two judges, Bruce Dennill. A musician in his own right he certainly knows what to look for in a singer/songwriter. He is also the editor of CitiVibe which can be found in the Citizen newspaper.
I will feature the other judge in the next Blog.

Someone had to be first, and young Julian stepped up to the plate and kicked the evening off.

Each of the 7 performers brought their own table of supporters…who all took advantage of the bar and the menu on offer. For theses young performers support is important.

Next behind the mic was Steven. Each was asked to do two original songs as well as one cover version.Perhaps it is my age but I did not recognize a single cover version! Luckily my opinion does not count and both judges seemed to know the songs.

Some interesting footwear…

Martin, the singer not the guitar.

This is what the competition is all about. Promoting new acoustic talent.

Nakhane had the venue applauding and the largest supporter table.

Willy Nelson uses a guitar signed by almost everyone he has performed with. Nakhane chose the following  biblical quotation:

Not a blues player, just Grant bathed in blue light…

There is a guitar up for grabs as one of the big prizes.

The penultimate performer, Roland…

And finally, Daniel closed off the evening.A big thank you to all the other supporters who stayed to watch his set.

The big prize! A USA Breedlove guitar and…

a Mark Acoustic 601 Amp!
Prizes for the competition total R45000.00.
