My first impressions of this wonderful B & B were light, airy and welcoming…
When we drove in, this Bulldog did not move and we wondered why. On closer inspection it turned out to be a VERY realistic pottery sculpture! The owners tell me that passing runners often spend time at the gate calling it.
Set in a quiet street in The historical town of Somerset West, this warm and welcoming property is owner run by Ine and Henk Kranendonk
No sooner had we arrived and my wife and Ine were already busy chatting.
By contrast,Henk, was busy finishing of the concrete slab of an outdoor kitchen..
And while Henk had his back turned, the Guinea Fowl walked across the wet concrete. It will add character to the new kitchen…
This unassuming entrance is the entrance to our accommodation…
While they were “otherwise engaged” I took the opportunity to inspect not only our room but the rest of the property…The beginning of 2012 and this B&B is a contender for my “Best Pillow” award!
Our room boasted the most modern toilet I have ever come across.
And molded modern fiberglass basins.
The resident Guinea fowl brood scrounged in the garden while Henk continued to toil away before the rain came…
If you are not sure where you are, the Somerset West version of Google Earth will help…
Back to my perambulations…this outdoor seating area overlooks the garden and the Helderberg mountain range…
Not forgetting the sparkling pool…
A secluded seating area in the well manicured garden…
This “sneaky” water feature is controlled by a sensor and only switches on when guests pass by.
The Lapa that also serves as a breakfast area…you can see the windows to our room on the right of the photograph.
And this is what awaits inside…
On my wanderings through the main building I discovered the main lounge which had a large screen TV as well as some interesting art works.
I was not sure what statement the artist was trying to make with these.
Although the grapes are real, it would be much easier(and quicker) to buy a bottle of wine from the honesty bar…
This wire and stone “tree” guards the private entrance to the guest portion of the property…
Up close…
With only 3 rooms, this 4 Star graded property offers true B&B hospitality.
