Schoone Oordt Country House, Swellendam

1793

During a recent trip to Swellendam we stayed at the Schoone Oordt Country House that was built exactly 100 years before I was born!

We were lucky enough to be given the honeymoon suite that had all the bells and whistles…

Not only heaters to keep us warm, but this wood burning ceramic fireplace to add ambiance to a wonderful space.

The toilets are the old fashioned kind…all lovingly refurbished by the owner

And probably the biggest shower head I have ever seen…

There was also a full size bath complete with huge bath sheets kept toasty warm on a heated towel rail

This indoor seating area looks out onto…

this verandah

The front door opens to yet another fountain…

The light and airy conservancy set up for breakfast…

The table decoration was not what we are used to in Jhb

Quirky statues can be found throughout the garden,if you look hard enough

A sparkling clean pool did beckon but the weather was not quite swimming weather

A couple of the rooms and some of the garden

When last did you see one of these cistern handles?
The food was memorable and the service could not be faulted.
We both rate Schoone Oordt very highly…
