A small piece of Europe, less than an hour from Johannesburg…
It has been a while since my wife and I have been in the Magaliesberg,so when presented with the opportunity to visit De Hoek country hotel, we leapt at the chance…
On our arrival we were confronted with this vanity plate in the parking lot…I know it has nothing to do with the property, but if you have a plate like this be assured it has been photographed more than once!
The RWC was still in progress and seeing we had lost
to the Australians, the rugby flag was flying at half mast…
To the right of the reception area is a croquet set up…
And for those who have not played before,
they will find out just how competitive the contestants become…
It was Spring(October) when we visited
and the flowers in the VERY neatly kept gardens were spectacular…
As were the roses outside the dining room…
And behind the kitchen area, I discovered this lemon tree in the fading light
Our room had a small balcony with a table and chairs to sit
and contemplate the garden and listen to the sound of the
many bird species to be found on the property
Or you can be lulled into a nap by the sound of one of the many
water features and dams that surround the buildings
The communal swimming pool nestles in the shade of some large trees
and looked very inviting…perhaps we will brave the waters tomorrow!
Although there is an indoor dining area, weather permitting, guests can eat on the patio…
Seeing that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary,
I thought that this heart was rather apt…I do love my wife!
There are all sorts of wonderful nooks and crannies to discover…
this was the desk in our suite…
A corner of the main lounge…
From the library…
There are jars of snacks and chocolates scattered throughout the main area…
not a great idea when the meals are being prepared by Chef Robert!
That being said, the plate of snacks did go down well with my non-alcoholic sun-downer…
I could not resist this lamp in the reception area on my way back to freshen up for dinner…
And speaking of dinner…this was our starter…
My rack of lamb was superb…
My wife chose the Kingklip…an excellent choice as it turned out…
My strawberry Pavlova dessert…diet? What diet…
A Truffle with coffee for my wife…
And this is what we found waiting for us when we returned to our suite…
reminded us of our wedding night…
