An Apple a day...from humble beginnings.
How many of you remember this iconic logo?
Made specifically for use in the USA,
we here in South Africa had to be reminded that it worked on a different voltage…
and as such required a transformer(and not like those in the movies!)
Believe it or not, this is the keyboard port! and it is in the front of the unit!
From early beginnings…
to an iconic brand…
This was the keyboard…
and the mouse…
This is the first Apple Mac to have been imported into South Africa as a demo unit.
And unlike the rusty bike frame, it still works!
This computer was given to my father-in-law, iconic South African cartoonist,
Dov Fedler.
He was going to do a series of cartoons called “Chip” around this machine
and its technology.
It now resides in my house…
The model number confirms that it was the first…
Tech guru Aki has supplied me with this information:
Introduced with 128K RAM of memory and upgraded to 512 a few months later.
This machine cost $2495 in its day!(R34930.00 at today’s exchange rate!)
There were no pre-loaded programs…everything was run off these old “stiffies”…
This particular unit even had its own luggage label…
and an embroidered logo on the bag that it came in…
which looked more like a bag you would use to visit the game reserve with…
And the circle is complete…the old on the new…
Apple Macintosh model number M0001 on the new iPad2…
Thank you Steve….
