I start this Blog with a heavy heart…my beloved bush hat that had been with me for 12 years was lost on our first night drive…how it occurred is uncertain, but all that we do know is that it now lies somewhere along the banks of the Sand River…
Featured in a previous “What to pack” Blog the hat will be sadly missed by me…
RIP….but at least you were lost in a game reserve and not in an urban jungle…
I do have a replacement that will be used on the rest of this trip, but whether it will be “THE” replacement, only time will tell…
With that off my chest, let me begin…
Our adventure begins at this stunning camp
This was our accommodation…
Under thatch, the room consisted of a lounge, bedroom as well as a bathroom that had both an indoor and out door shower
The stand-alone bath had an interesting metal wrap around “skirt” that added something different…
I was particularly fond of the stone walls and rattan light fittings…
At night, with the lights on, the added a warmth to the somewhat stark stone…
The seating(lounge) area that overlooked our private plunge pool…but enough of our accommodation, let me show you the rest of the lodge before we move on to the game drives…
This is the somewhat nondescript entrance give the new guest no idea of what lies beyond…
An open plan lounge that has a mezzanine library offers the guests a view out over the Mabrak river(when it flows)…
There is also a public pool although each room has it’s own plunge pool…
Our pool overlooked some bushes but we could hear the river from our deck…
Wooden spoons are used as decoration…
Even the light fittings are special…
Food plays a large part in this lodge…like most game lodges…and Leadwood is no different!
Lunchtime on our first day…
The walkway that contains the library and leads to a “tree-top” deck area that we, together with our friends,Jim and Joanne, from the USA,claimed as our own!
Jim,Joanne and Caro enjoying breakfast…
At night the lounge area becomes very special…
Even water in a glass can be transformed with the right lighting…
This bank of switches controls the lighting…
To round off our first evening, my wife joined the staff dance performance…
Leadwood Lodge is part of the &Beyond group of properties…
