Our final destination on our recent safari trip was Kirkman’s Kamp…
Originally the homestead of Harry Kirkman, it has been renovated and is now owned and managed by &Beyond…
The rooms are very Colonial in style and the camp is the largest of the &Beyond properties that we visited on our trip(18 rooms)…
This was the view from our balcony,which might not look spectacular…However…
The sunrise on our final morning was certainly spectacular…even without a cloud in the sky…

The ubiquitous “safari/curio” shop at the main building…every camp has one!
The main lounge is filled with a variety of memorabilia from the time that the Kirkmans owned the home…
I am not sure if these belonged to the family, but they added a nice touch…
I know that this guest was not actually part of the furniture, but he certainly was feeling at home!

It still contains the original “scoreboard” for animal sightings…
The farm was originally started as a cattle ranch…but lions took there toll of the stock.It is rumoured that Harry killed in excess of 500 lions in the 6 years that cattle were on the property.

However, while we were there the weather played along and we were able to eat on the back veranda…
Unlike Leadwood and River Lodges, the rooms at Kirkman’s do not have individual pools…but the communal pool has a stunning view of the surrounding bush…
This Bushbuck ram was guarding the entrance to the main building…
For reasons I cannot explain, fever trees are special to me…this one is no exception…which is why it gets to be part of this blog…
I found this “Gym in a bag” at the pool area…it is an &Beyond touch that we last encountered at Melton Manor at Kwandwe(their Eastern Cape property)…I did not use it then or now…

Our dinner was served in the Boma…the word is an anagram for British Officers Mess Area…just a bit of trivia for YOUR next bush experience…
When we returned to our room, this is the surprise that awaited us…thank you Thomas!
And so our visit to Sabi Sands comes to an end.
