Bush Babies Monkey Sanctuary can be found about an hour from Johannesburg on the road to Sun City…
This was the sign outside the entrance to the the Sanctuary…we should have taken closer note of what it said…Why?
No sooner had we stepped through the entrance than this cheeky monkey decided that he needed my wife’s water bottle more than she did!
This fellow decided to follow us…until he realized that there was no food or trinkets that he could remove from us…
This is Sarah the Spider monkey with my friend Joanne from the USA…
So that my wife did not feel left out, Sarah decided to spend some time with her as well…
The sanctuary is designed to allow “pets” to roam free in an outdoor enclosure with no bars…the majority of the inmates have been donated by people who have come to realize that primates do not make good pets!
There is also a growing population of Lemurs that have been rescued from the illegal pet trade. They have started breeding which bodes well for this endangered species…
This Lemur was more interested in sleep than actually caring about us…but he did wake just long enough for me to take this picture
This family of Ring-tailed Lemurs has recently been increased by the addition of a brand new baby…proving that the sanctuary is working well!
And just to prove that they do not only eat fruit and nuts, this chap had caught and killed a frog.He was busy eating it when we found him sitting next to the walkway…a good sign in as much as it means that he is able to catch his own food even though meals are provided!
When we visited the mango trees outside the entrance to the coffee shop were in bloom…
The reception area has a great coffee bar as well as a gift shop…
Also on the property is this centre…the attention to detail inside defies description…but stunning comes close!
The passage that leads from the conference centre to the bar…
There are even living trees in the entrance foyer…something that makes a huge difference to the ambiance of the venue…
The attention to detail is evident everywhere. This is part of a door…
Part of the main bar…
