Although Mosethla is a very special experience,
the game viewing is what makes the 3 hour trip from Johannesburg worthwhile…

People who regularly visit game reserves will know that luck plays a big role in what you get to see and what might remain hidden.
Lilac-breasted Rollers abound and will often pose while guests try to get the best shot
The other extreme is the Crimson breasted shrike that very seldom sits still…we were very lucky to catch this one in a relaxed mood…
Mom Shell duck and her ducklings were not so patient and decided to take off before we had finished shooting!
This Brown Snake Eagle was quite prepared to stay for a while…
As was this Secretary Bird who was rather precariously perched on it’s nest…it is quite amazing to find such a large bird(aside from Eagles) nesting so high up…
But of course it is not only the bird-life that attracted guests to this corner of the North West that almost touches the border with Botswana.
The biggest of the “Big 5” is the African Elephant of which there are large herds in Madikwe…this particular fellow was enjoying a dust bath in the late afternoon before wandering off to look for something to eat and drink
This youngster did try his best impersonation of being big, but he knew that mom was close by and would come to his rescue if necessary! “Cute” is a word that he did not want to hear.
This baby White Rhino was certainly cute, but was unfortunately just too far away…
On the other hand this large bull got really up close and personal with our vehicle!
For major ‘cuteness’…it is hard to beat these Hyena pups!
 Or these lion cubs…
No matter how many times I see White Rhino I still get excited…this male was waiting for us on our early morning game drive…
We believed that there were lionesses with cubs close by,
but despite his best attempts,Johnny could only find  these tracks…

…but no sight of the animals who had left them!

Impala are often the most overlooked antelope species because they are so plentiful…
The same can be said for Blue Wildebeest…
although people will travel to the Masai Mara to see the annual migration.

We ended our morning game drive watching a group of Vervet monkeys at play…
