EFC '08...Carnival City! The best event to date...
Cut-man Steve applying Vaseline to Raymond Ahana

Out of the smoke and darkness they came.Sweat already covering their faces and a focused and single minded look in their eyes…Cage fighters ready to do battle in the hexagonal enclosure…

After several successful events at the Dome in Northgate, the event moved to Carnival City to ‘perform’ before a whole new audience…and they came in their droves…with beards and moustaches, leather jackets and tattoos…and that was just the women…only kidding!

The air of anticipation was almost palpable as the first fighters entered the venue… and the first port of call was cut-man Steve and his ever handy Vaseline.

Some of the fighters tried to intimidate their opponents by peering at them from behind the mesh, but most fighters did not seem to be to bothered by what lay ahead

The fights on the under-card were all 3 rounds of three minutes…and this event we saw several fights go the distance.

An important part of the team is the camera crew that have to record each fight. This time the event was beamed live to selected NU-Metro cinemas. It was, as ususal, availabale via streaming on the Internet.

And what would an event of this sort be without ‘ring-girls’…and here they are

Our regular commentators have done this so many times that at least one of them can do it with his eyes closed!

While the other seems to have been caught out by the bright lights…

What does it take to keep our ring announcer going during the event? THIS…

And this is what he looks like while he is working…

This winner was so happy that he fell down as the decision was announced!

Each fighter seems to have his own trade mark…this one had painted his fingernails, but that did not seem to help as he lost the fight.

Although all of the fight action is in the ring,it is often the faces around the ring that tell the ‘real’ story.

The three main events of the evening (5×3 minute rounds) certainly produced some of the best fights of not only the evening but the entire series to date…

The final fight was to my mind the best of the evening.By the end both fighters could barely stand.

EFC ’09 moves back to the Dome for the next event on 30 June…see press for details.
