Woodlands Centre for Wellbeing and Spa

This time of the year is always a busy one for me and as such it brings extra stress that cannot always be cured by energy drinks or supplements.
I decided that a day at Woodlands Centre for Wellbeing and Spa would help me to reduce my stress levels and rekindle my creative juices.
This oasis in Muldersdrift is less than thirty minutes from Randburg and in the year it has been open it has garnered some impressive awards and accolades.
Situated within the reception area are a lounge, dining area and a deck that overlooks the Jukskei, which was in full flood while I was there.
Guests are also able to have either breakfast or lunch depending on their treatments.
As I only got there mid – morning, I did not get to sample any of the muffins that were on offer, but I can highly recommend the chicken stir fry that I had for lunch.
It made with herbs that were picked on the property and I could taste the difference from store bought. But enough of the food and onto the treatments…
Originally I had wanted to try the floatation therapy but after discussions with Marisa I decided on a more ‘adventurous’ course of treatments.
First, a Body Talk session with Dr. Ela. This non-invasive treatment relies on opening the bodies own healing channels to allow it to begin heal itself. Not only that but it suggests ways to address problems and the number of visits that might be required to achieve this.
OK, I can sense the cynics (like me) saying that this is all alternative nonsense. I was skeptical at first, but not only was the treatment relaxing and uplifting but one question from the Dr. after the treatment removed all my doubts as to it’s efficacy.
It brought up a very specific minor incident that happened to me in 1977 and I am now a convert and I will certainly return for the follow up treatment that was recommended.
After the Body Talk session it was time for a Shanti Shiro facial. Now I have had several facials but this was by far the best. The core part of the treatment is Viridian Oil, a blend of omegas 3, 6 and 9.This is accompanied by a steam treatment and a raw honey exfoliation. The treatment was completed with a shirohara which consisted of warm oil being poured over my forehead and scalp. Forget metro-sexual, this hetro-sexual enjoyed every minute of the treatment!
A crystal Reiki treatment completed my day at Woodlands. For me this was the most intense experience. Closing my eyes and allowing myself to relax totally produced a series of colours and images that are difficult to describe. Suffice to say that after this treatment I was almost totally stress free even though I still had to drive home.
All the treatments are designed to pamper not only the senses but the soul as well.
By tapping into the body’s own healing powers these treatments will eliminate stress and help you to rediscover the balance in your life caused by our stressful daily living.
I slept for almost 12 hours on returning home and the following morning I awoke feeling more energized and creative than I had in a long while.
If you are looking for a gift to give someone special, or perhaps just to treat yourself to some extraordinary body and soul treatments, then I can highly recommend Woodlands.
