Why is it that Cape Town is so protective of “their” Mountain and the sea and are often loath to share either with incoming tourists.
However on a recent trip to the Mother City with my daughter I was actually not there to see either!
I had heard about a property in Constantia, the name of which spoke volumes. “ The Last Word, Constantia”!
Our arrival at their main gate had us both concerned that we had arrived at the wrong destination, even though Simon, the voice on my GPS, assured us he has correct.
Behind the rather inconspicuous entrance lay a venue that almost took our breath away!
We were met at reception by very friendly staff and while our luggage was being taken to our accommodation we were given a tour of the property.
The reception area leads into a lounge/formal seating area and dining room. All light and airy, especially the dining room which boasts a glass enclosed portion that looks out over the gardens (We had breakfast here the following morning and aside from a great spread, the view was really worthwhile)
Our accommodation was on the far side of the main public pool and again the rather unimposing entrance belied what lay behind…
This is truly the last word in luxury!
We each had our own lounge, huge main bedroom and a bathroom that could host half a soccer team in comfort
And if that was not enough to convince us that our one night stay was not nearly long enough, the private gardens and individual pools almost did.
But, as the TV ads tell us, “That is not all!”
The complimentary mini bar and snacks were replenished as if by magic and to a working writer the free wireless Internet I had was a huge help.
The beds were really comfy with linen whose thread count almost defied counting. On booking in we were offered a choice of blankets or duvets…certainly a first for me.
During the course of my work I get to stay at a variety of properties, my daughter does not always get an opportunity to join me.
I asked her for her take on the property:
“There is this wonderful quote of “God is in the details” and it seems this little gem of a boutique hotel is based on that quote. Everything is meticulously overseen – from the extraordinarily large, luxurious rooms, to the gardens to the most lavish turn-down treat. The buildings façade is rather misleading – but once you enter the actual premises, there is no doubt you have entered a new space. One of peace and tranquillity and well simply: space. It was wonderful being in such a secluded quite spot – you almost forgot you were in Cape Town. However you were just a 15 min drive from Cape Town’s city centre. The staff was most obliging – I am lactose intolerant and instead of milk they had already placed soy milk in my mini bar. As I say, a small detail but it makes all the difference. We took walks in the surrounding area, which itself was breathtaking. If you ever want to feel like royalty – this is the perfect destination, where decadence lies in the detail”.
This 5-Star property has only eight suites so guests are guaranteed not only spectacular service and luxury but the feeling of tranquillity that make this property so special!
As for the turn down service that my daughter alluded to…great melktart for me and delicious fresh fruit for her. A wonderful way to end off our day.
Behind its somewhat reserved appearance lies a boutique hotel of quality and splendor.
A place to relax and renew both your body and your soul.
